Founders Day Alms Giving

Rajans Win
The first ever cricket match between Dharmaraja college OBU Melbourne and Kingswood college OBU Melbourne took place on 5th April 2007 at Police paddocks , Dandenong.
DRC team was captain by Chamila Kaduruwewa and KCK was captain by Rizan Mowsoon. Chamila won the toss and put KCK in to bat.
KCK made 155 for the loss of 7 wickets in 30 overs.Waruna 32, Gihan Ekanayake 37 and Ruwan 24 N.O. made runs for KCK. Eranda Ekanayake 3 wickets and Anura Thilakkaratna 2 wickets bowled well for DRC.
In reply DRC made a bright start with the Opening pair Marapana 41 & Jayamal 18 putting on 65 runs. Then wickets started to fall However Chamila Kaduruwewa with 47 N.O. guided DRC to victory in 29.3 overs with seven wickets down. For KCK Shrimantha Fernando bowled tightly conceding only 14 runs in his 5 overs.
Old Rajans Thilak Wijewardena, Nala Hewavissa & Lalith Amunugama cooked us a nice BBQ Lunch for the large gathering of around 75 people from both schools.

Buddhist school builds international ground.

One of the oldest Buddhist schools in Sri Lanka, Dharmaraja College in Kandy, is building a new international cricket stadium at Lake View. Sri Lanka Cricket are helping out: they have already funded them Rs. 750,000 for the preparation of five centre pitches. SLC also promised two sightscreens and a scoreboard, they are not forthcoming, according to Yasas Chandrasekera, the vice-president of the Dharmaraja Old Boys Association and secretary of the Lake View Development Project under whose aegis the stadium is being built. "We have been told that it is not possible because SLC does not have the funds," he said. "We will have to look elsewhere." more...

Next Meeting - At Thilak Wijewardana's Place
A meeting has ben arranged -17th March Saturday @ 7pm, at Thilak's place ,34 Third Street, Parkdale-9580 3169- usual talk, Maiocca (Susantha) and Urumas, BYO drinks.Maiocca/Urumas/whiskey/beer seems to be the standard food and drink items in the DRC OBU gatherings.

Family BBQ 2007 - Another Successful Event
A total of 60 old boys and family members attended the family BBQ on 10th of February 2007. It was one of the successful events organised by old boys union in Melbourne. The membership forms were distributed on the day and more forms are available with Aruna Herath.

Raffel Tickets
It is raffel ticket time again. We have received raffle tickets from Rotary Club of Ballarat south. Each ticket is $2.00 and a book costs $20.00. We expect help of the members to sell these tickets as it is the only fund raising project for the OBU.

“LEN DORA PIPUNA PREMAYA”
Perhaps you may be already aware, that the writer Chandraratne Bandara was a contemporary of ours at Dharmaraja College in late seventies/early eighties. He was one of the pioneers of "Sineru Kala Sansadaya" and did a tremendous service to promote an awareness of literature, arts, drama, cinema, etc. at our school. He continues to be involved in helping such endeavors at Dharmaraja College. Recently he published a collection of short stories based on his studies, discussions, experiences and recollections while living in Toronto during the years 2005 and 2006, “LEN DORA PIPUNA PREMAYA” more...

Pinkama held on 20th September 2006.
The 'pinkama' held at the Keysborough temple was very successful and well attended. The Sri Lankan community in Australia appriciated what we did towards the Sri Lankans afected by the war at home. Our secretary, Mr. Thilak Wijewardena received many phone calls from all over the Australia appreciating the event. He wants to thank all who participated and helped in numerous ways.

A Pinkama- puja and Bana Sermon will be held on Wednesday 20th of Sept. at the Keysborough Temple.Time 7.30 PM. Tea and short eats afterwards. Please keep the date free and attend the event with the family.Please bring children and friends. Please note that we are first OBA to remember and offer merit to our brothers who sacrificed their lives.

Death of Nipuna Wickramasooriya.
Nipuna Wickramasooriya who left the school in 1991 has died in an accident in Colombo last night. He lived at Lewella and for further information please contact Eranga Kulasekara.

Fallen Heroes Memorial.
A fallen heros memorial page will soon be added to the site. It will appear under History menu. We envisage to include all the Dharmaraja College old boys who died in action during the period of 1983 - 2006.

SSP Upul Senveratne killed.
Dharmaraja College old boy Mr. Upul Seneviratne, Training director of STF was caught in a Claymore attack carried out by Wanni Tigers in Kandy on 07th August morning at 5:00am. He was seriously injured and was admitted to Kandy hospital. He succumbed to his injuries at 6:00am.

Chamara Kapugedara - The first RAJANS test cricketer.
Chamara Kapugedara became the first test cricketer to be produced by Dharmaraja College. Chamara was very lucky to start his test cricket career at Lords, the home of cricket.
